Il plurale

l plurale della maggior parte dei nomi si forma aggiungendo -s:

dog dogs star stars

Ai nomi che terminano in consonante + y per formare il plurale

si toglie -y e si aggiunge -ies:
body bodies spy spies

Ai nomi che terminano in -ch, -sh, -s, -ss, -x, -o per formare
il plurale si aggiunge -es:
witch witches dish dishes bus buses
kiss kisses fox foxes tomato tomatoes

Ai nomi che terminano in -f, -fe per formare il plurale
si sostituiscono -f, -fe con -ves:
leaf leaves wife wives

Alcuni nomi hanno un plurale irregolare:
child children woman women tooth teeth

man men foot feet mouse mice

Forma affermativa
Estesa: there is + nome singolare There is a boy.

there are + nome plurale There are some boys.
Contratta: there’s + nome singolare There’s a boy.

Forma negativa
Estesa: there is not + nome singolare There is not a dog.
there are not + nome plurale There are not any dogs.

Contratta: there isn’t + nome singolare There isn’t a cat.
there aren’t + nome plurale There aren’t any cats.

Forma interrogativa
is there + nome singolare Is there an apple?
are there + nome plurale Are there any apples?
